In 1996, six Grand Banks Owners with boats in the Great Lakes saw a need for an association of GB owners to share the joy of owning these fine yachts, and to promote camaraderie and information exchange on matters of mutual interest.
From that small beginning, the Great Lakes Grand Banks Association (Formerly the Great Lakes Grand Banks Owners Association) has grown to over 100 members, with boats representing almost all categories of yachts built by Grand Banks over its 50 year corporate history.

We were privileged to have the original Grand Banks woodie, "Spray", as one of our member boats for many years. "Spray" was designed by Ken Smith and built in Jamestown, Rhode Island in 1962, and came to the Great Lakes from the east coast in 1966. She is generally accepted as the ancestor of all Grand Banks Heritage series cruisers. and was lovingly cared for by one of our GBGLA members. In July of 2009, "Spray" left Kenosha to return to the waters of her youth on the east coast. After a planned restoration by its new owners, "Spray" will be home ported near Bar Harbor, Maine. She was the center of attention when she appeared at our rendezvous events.

You can visit www.bhwoodenboat.com to see and read about "Sprays" restoration project.

You can also click on the "Spray" icon (above) to see a screen-sized photo of "Spray" taken in 2006 by former owner Donald Moeller.

Finally, we invite your attention to the May 2007 edition of Lakeland Boating Magazine, where on pages 54 and 55 you'll find a most interesting article about "Spray". It was written by Reagan Haynes, and tells the story of "a man who purchases a Grand Banks prototype he dreamed of owning as a kid".

GLGBA is grateful to the following six individuals whose foresight and dedication created an organization of shared interests and values which endures and prospers today.
